No one can be exactly certain when MWEA began providing training for wastewater treatment plant operators. However, it undoubtedly started with leaders in the profession identifying the need for information to be shared and then recruiting knowledgeable practitioners to perform the instruction.
From that viewpoint, little has changed. The genesis of the cast majority of MWEA training still comes from persons working in the field every day.
for the calendar of events.
Our conferences (Annual Conference, Wastewater Administrators, Biosolids) have agendas with a number of speakers who will address regulatory issues, industry innovation, case studies, etc.
These events are considered 'repeatable' by MDEQ - meaning CEC credit can be earned more than once in an operator's certification cycle.
One Day Seminars
These training sessions are highly focused on specific areas and address regulatory issues, industry innovation, case studies, etc., much like our conferences. These programs often include six to eight different presenters and are often held in the Lansing area as a central location between our members. These events offer five hours of continuing education contact time (0.5 MDEQ CECs) and are also considered 'repeatable' by MDEQ.

Basic Training Classes
These courses carry several distinct differences from our conferences and one day seminars. First, they are conducted by a single instructor. Second, they are offered in various areas of the state to cut down on travel time for attendees. And third, they are NOT deemed 'repeatable' by MDEQ; continuing education credit can only be earned once during an operator's certification cycle.
These classes are typically worth 0.5 MDEQ CECs and ideally, attendance will be limited to 20 people per class.
